Noor and her mother live in a small, cluttered apartment in Bahrain. After every argument, a completely random object appears: a traffic cone, a shopping cart, a bike. The objects have nothing to do with what the fight was about, but their size reflects how emotionally damaging it was.
Mother and daughter can see the objects and squeeze around them, and they choose never to talk about them, as if this is normal in their world.
As their conflicts intensify, the objects keep accumulating. Beneath her mother's attempts at affection, Noor struggles with the emotional baggage that keeps their relationship suffocating.
Unspoken pain doesn't disappear; it takes up space between people.
The daughter, fourteen. Sarcastic, a little defensive, very organised. She wants independence, space, and to feel unconditionally loved and seen by her mother; she needs to set boundaries without feeling guilty. Guilt, exhaustion and the fear of losing their connection hold her back.
Mid to late thirties, divorced and struggling financially. She wants to feel loved and understood by her daughter; she needs to confront her pain and establish emotional boundaries. Loneliness, resentment and the fear of abandonment hold her back.
Amel approaches a familiar, complicated relationship through her own perspective, using magical realism and symbolism.
Because the emotional struggles within families are often difficult to acknowledge, especially when love and hurt exist side by side.
These relationships are rarely just one thing. They can be tender, suffocating, familiar and painful all at once.
Amel Almahdi has a completed script, partial access to filming equipment, and two people already helping with casting.
